The former constituency of Labour maverick Tony Benn the constituency has long been home to Bristol’s skilled working classes. The area has seen significant investment particularly in its schools under Labour and everyone hopes there will be no backwards sliding under the current Government. Some of Bristol’s best green spaces can be found in Bristol East. Eastville and St. George’s Parks sit at the very heart of their community and well worth a visit whilst Troopers Hill represents scrub land unique in a city the size of Bristol and a history dating back to the English Civil War.
The current MP is Kerry McCarthy who in addition to her hard work as constituency MP sits in Labour’s Shadow Treasury Team. In addition to normal campaigning Kerry has led the way in engaging voters through social media. Despite the Tories spending record amounts of money in the 2010 General Election Kerry was returned with a convincing majority.
